Product Description Dex Products Sound Sleeper Your baby can't seem to sleep through the night...and neither can you! Doctors recommend a consistent sleep routine for all newborns. To do this, a baby's sleep environment should be peaceful and "noise free." You deserve it. Order the Dex Products Sound Sleeper today!
Amazon.com Hands-On Review For parents whose vocal cords can't hold out for 200 rounds of "Hush Little Baby," a sound machine is a must for baby bedtime routines. And the DEX Sound Sleeper is one of the best ones we've ever found. This small (6 by 10 by 12 inches), simple device features a high quality speaker, on/off or 60-minute timer switch, volume control, single, combine, or random mode, battery or power adapter capability, headphone jack (headphones not included), and, most spectacularly, 10 sound options which can be combined to make 24 sound combinations altogether. Doctors and sleep experts recommend a consistent, relaxing sleep routine for newborns and older babies. Freeing baby's sleep environment of jarring or distracting outside noises is an important step in creating a soothing space for sleep. The Sound Sleeper provides just enough peaceful background noise to block household hubbub. Once baby becomes familiar with the sounds of this machine, she'll probably start yawning the minute she hears it! The Sounds of (Near) Silence The sounds of Sound Sleeper don't have to be boring, just relaxing and repetitive. Experiment with the various sounds to find the perfect soporific. Summer Night The buzz of peeper frogs and insects is a happy, sleepy, country sound. Rain What's cozier than curling up in bed with a gentle rainstorm pattering outside the window? Brook Burble, burble, burblejust don't try this one when your toddler is potty-training! Ocean The deep tranquility of a calm ocean is unmatched for its lulling ability. Wind The wind blows quietly in the trees, but you and baby are safe and sound at home. Womb The rhythmic swishing sounds of the womb: it's a natural for soothing baby! Seagull Just a few lonely seagull cries, widely spaced. Bird Pretty, delicate bird song. Buoy The distant ringing of a bell buoy. Great in combination with the Ocean sound. Thunder Thunder rumbles, but the storm always stays far off in the distance. Best combined with Rain, of course. Experiment with the Combine mode to find the perfect sleep-inducing sounds for your baby. We like Brook and Bird, Wind and Thunder, and Ocean and Buoy, but who knows? Maybe the magic combination will be Womb and Seagull! The power adapter feature of the Sound Sleeper is very handy for everyday use, but the battery option is a lifesaver when traveling. The ability to leave the sound machine on all night long (or put it on the one-hour timer) is invaluable. Babies are notorious for waking up throughout the night; when they hear the same soothing sounds they fell asleep to, it will be much easier to return to those sweet dreams. Requires 4 AA batteries (not included). --Emilie Coulter

Could not live without!!! February 5, 2006 The Walkers (Houston, Texas) 198 out of 202 found this review helpful
This is just fantastic. We previously were using the lulaby bear but the darn thing kept messing up. We went through three of them before finding this. Here is the break down:
Good
1. Can have it play all night or use the automatic shut off.
2. Tons of sounds to choose from
3. Small, fits in our playards little rack where we keep diapers and such. Also easy to pack when staying somewhere overnight.
4. Has the option to plug in to save money instead of wasting batteries, but the battery option is nice to have two since you do not always have an outlet everywhere.
5. Can program it to play one sound, play two sounds at the same time (such as rain w/ thunder), or you can choose the option for it to play sounds at random.
6. Easy Easy Easy to use. I never even read the instruction manual.
Bad:
1. It does not go real real loud.
To give an example of how loud it goes. If we turn it up to full volume and close the bedroom door we can hear it (it is on the far side of the room away from the door, our room is an average master bedroom) if there is not another sound going on. But if the T.V, dishwasher, dogs, or shower is running anywhere in the house we cannot hear it. That is more than enough for us, especially since it is right next to our babies crib and as long as he hears it we are happy. Also when we go to bed and all things are off in the house we have to turn it down to its lowest volume otherwise it is too loud. I hope that helps!!
We tote it everywhere--good for newborns AND older babies. March 24, 2006 Marie Stone (Northern California) 62 out of 63 found this review helpful
I consider this one of the essential baby care gadgets, far more essential than a wipe warmer. Many baby experts seem to agree that newborns crave the swooshing sounds of the womb, and that silence, for them, is startling. Our newborn would cease screaming AS SOON AS WE TURNED THE WOMB SOUNDS ON. Other people, observing this, could not believe it, and, though they laughed at us, had to agree that IT WORKED. Now, our son is nearing 6 months of age, but we still use the machine (set on Ocean sounds) in order to drown out other sounds during nap and sleep times. It would be worth the money even if it played only one sound. The fact that it comes with an AC adapter is great, as is the fact that it can be turned on to play continously--other models shut off automatically after a 40 or 60 minute period. The sudden absence of noise wakes some babies up. This one is great.
loud enough April 16, 2005 M. Raynes (PA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I just wanted to write a quick comment about the volume of this product. I was extremely hesitant to buy this model because of the complaints I read from others regarding the volume. We received the Sound Sleeper in the mail yesterday and used it last night. I was very happy with the volume...we could hear it in our bedroom without a monitor. I also did not have it turned as loud as it would go because I thought the volume would be too loud. The baby slept great and I am more than satisifed with the purchase. Do not let volume be your deciding factor. The AC adapter is great too, never have to worry about batteries.
Love It December 5, 2005 Tyson Chandler (Texas) 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
I bought this item because it was cheaper than the mommy bear and it plays the womb sound, plus it plays so many more sounds. You can either use batteries or plug it in. I have this sitting on my changing table and turn it on everytime I change my sons diaper and he will spit his pacifier out and just listen. It also has a timer mode that will play for an hour and cut off, which I love because that gives baby plenty of time to fall asleep. The volume adjustment is great too, it is loud enough on the lowest setting but can get much louder if baby is fussy and you really need to get his attention. Great investment for the price
An outstanding buy! March 17, 2006 Emma Schwab 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
We bought this for our daughter when she was 2 months old (she's now 4 months) because she was taking 45 minutes to an hour to go to sleep, even though we could tell she was SOOO sleepy. I bought it because it had the "womb sound" option and I had read that that sound helps little baby's go to sleep easier; however that particular noise didn't seem to help her. What really works for us is the Ocean sound, though there are many other sounds that would probably work with your child. For every nap and at night we "turn on the ocean" and she conks right out.
Positives:
1) Timer setting turns off the sounds after 1 hour
2) Batteries last (at least with the timer setting) since we bought it batteries have been repaced once (4 AA)
3) Transportable! Easily fits into the diaper bag when you go on an overnight trip
4) Many different sound options. If one doesn't calm down baby, another will.
5) Price, it's only $20!
Negitive:
The only bad thing I can think of about this product is that the volume doesn't get very loud, if you need to block out a loud noise, this probably won't do it. We just keep it in the corner of her crib though and have never had to turn the volume up very high.
I absolutly love this little thing and have had no problems with it at all. As a matter of fact I'm here now to buy another for a co-worker who just had a baby.
